Reminders to do Good

Surah Al-Baqara – Chapter 2, verses 21 to 22

(21) Yaaa aiyuhan naasu'budoo Rabbakumul lazee khalaqakum wallazeena min qablikum la'allakum tattaqoon (22) Allazee ja'ala lakumul arda firaashanw wassamaaa'a binaaa 'anw wa anzala minassamaaa'i maaa'an fa akhraja bihee minas samaraati rizqal lakum falaa taj'aloo lillaahi andaadanw wa antum ta'lamoon

(21) O mankind, serve your Lord Who has created you as well as those before you; do so that you are saved. (22) It is He Who has made the earth a resting-place for you, and the sky a canopy, and sent down water from above wherewith He brought forth fruits for your sustenance. Do not, then, set up rivals to Allah when you know (the Truth).

Surah Al-Baqara – Chapter 2, verse 152

Fazkurooneee azkurkum washkuroo lee wa laa takfuroon (section 18)

So remember Me and I shall remember you; give thanks to Me and do not be ungrateful to Me for My favours.

Surah Al-Baqara – Chapter 2, verses 155 to 157

(155) Wa lanablu wannakum bishai'im minal khawfi waljoo'i wa naqsim minal amwaali wal anfusi was samaraat; wa bashshiris saabireen (156) Allazeena izaaa asaabathum museebatun qaalooo innaa lillaahi wa innaaa ilaihi raaji'oon (157) Ulaaa'ika 'alaihim salawaatun mir Rabbihim wa rahma; wa ulaaa'ika humul muhtadoon

(155) We shall certainly test you by afflicting you with fear, hunger, loss of properties and lives and fruits. Give glad tidings, then, to those who remain patient; (156) those who when any affliction smites them, they say: “Verily, we belong to Allah, and it is to Him that we are destined to return.” (157) Upon them will be the blessings and mercy of their Lord, and it is they who are rightly guided.

Surah Al-Baqara – Chapter 2, verse 186

Wa izaa sa alaka 'ibaadee 'annnee fa innee qareebun ujeebu da'wataddaa'i izaa da'aani falyastajeeboo lee wal yu'minoo bee la'allahum yarshudoon

(O Muhammad), when My servants ask you about Me, tell them I am quite near; I hear and answer the call of the caller whenever he calls Me. Let them listen to My call and believe in Me; perhaps they will be guided aright.

Surah Al-Baqara – Chapter 2, verse 195

Wa anfiqoo fee sabeelil laahi wa laa tulqoo bi aydeekum ilat tahlukati wa ahsinoo; innal laaha yuhibbul muhsineen

Spend in the Way of Allah and do not cast yourselves into destruction with your own hands; do good, for Allah loves those who do good.

Surah Al-Na’am – Chapter 6, verse 98

Wa huwal lazeee ansha akum min nafsinw waahidatin famustaqarrunw wa mustawda'; qad fassalnal Aayaati liqaw miny-yafqahoon

It is He Who created you out of a single being, and appointed for each of you a time-limit and a resting place. We have indeed spelled out Our signs for those who can understand.

Surah Al-Na’am – Chapter 6, verse 102

Zaalikumul laahu Rabbukum laaa ilaaha illaa huwa khaaliqu kulli shai'in fa'budooh; wa huwa 'alaa kulli shai'inw Wakeel

Such is Allah, your Lord. There is no god but He - the Creator of all things. Serve Him alone - for it is He Who is the guardian of everything.

Surah Al-Kahf – Verse 18, verse 28

Wasbir nafsaka ma'al lazeena yad'oona Rabbahum bilghadaati wal'ashiyyi yureedoona Wajhahoo wa laa ta'du 'aynaaka 'anhum tureedu zeenatal hayaatid dunyaa wa laa tuti' man aghfalnaa qalbahoo 'an zikrinaa wattaba'a hawaahu wa kaana amruhoo furutaa

Keep yourself content with those who call upon their Lord, morning and evening, seeking His pleasure, and do not let your eyes pass beyond them. Do you seek the pomp and glitter of the world? Do not follow him whose heart We have caused to be heedless of Our remembrance, and who follows his desires, and whose attitude is of excess.

Surah Al-Jathiya – Chapter 45, verses 14 to 15

(14) Qul lillazeena aamanoo yaghfiroo lillazeena laa yarjoona ayyaamal laahi liyajziya qawmam bimaa kaanoo yaksiboon (15) Man 'amila saalihan falinafsihee wa man asaaa'a fa'alaihaa summa ilaa Rabbikum turja'oon

(14) (O Prophet), tell the believers to indulge those who have no fear of any evil days coming upon them from Allah so that Allah may Himself requite them for their deeds. (15) Whoever acts righteously, does so to his own good; and whoever commits an evil will suffer its consequence. All of you will then be sent back to your Lord.

Surah Ar-Rahman – Chapter 55, verse 60

Hal jazaaa'ul ihsaani illal ihsaan

Can the reward of goodness be any other than goodness?

Surah Al-Maun – Chapter 107, verses 1 to 7

(1) Ara 'aytal lazee yukazzibu biddeen (2) Fazaalikal lazee yadu'ul-yateem (3) Wa la yahuddu 'alaa ta'aamil miskeen (4) Fa wailul-lil musalleen (5) Allazeena hum 'an salaatihim saahoon (6) Allazeena hum yuraaa'oon (7) Wa yamna'oonal maa'oon

(1) Did you see him who gives the lie to the Reward and Punishment of the Hereafter? (2) Such is the one who repulses the orphans away, (3) and urges not the feeding of the needy. (4) Woe, then, to those who pray, (5) but are heedless in their Prayers, (6) those who do good (in order) to be seen, (7) and deny people the articles of common necessity.
