Judgement Day and the Grave
Surah An-Nisa – Chapter 4, verse 87
Allaahu laaa ilaaha illaa huwa la yajma'annakum ilaa Yawmil Qiyaamati laa raiba feeh; wa man asdaqu min allaahi hadeesaa (Section 11)
There is no god but Allah. He will certainly gather you all together on the Day of Resurrection - the Day regarding which there can be no doubt. Whose word can be truer than Allah's?
Surah At-Tawba – Chapter 9, verse 84
Wa laa tusalli 'alaaa ahadim minhum maata abadanw wa laa taqum 'alaa qabriheee innahum kafaroo billaahi wa Rasoolihee wa maatoo wa hum faasiqoon
Do not ever pray over any of them who dies, nor stand over his grave. They disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died in iniquity.
Surah Maryam – Chapter 19, verses 66 to 67
(66) Wa yaqoolul insaanu 'a izaa maa mittu lasawfa ukhraju haiyaa (67) 'A wa laa yazkurul insaanu annaa khalaqnaahu min qablu wa lam yaku shai'aa
(66) Man is prone to say: "Shall I be raised to life after I die?" (67) Does man not remember that We created him before when he was nothing?
Surah Al-Anbiya – Chapter 21, verse 47
Wa nada'ul mawaazeenal qista li Yawmil Qiyaamati falaa tuzlamu nafsun shai'aa; wa in kaana misqaala habbatim min khardalin atainaa bihaa; wa kafaa binaa haasibeen
We shall set up just scales on the Day of Resurrection so that none will be wronged in the least. (We shall bring forth the acts of everyone), even if it be the weight of a grain of mustard seed. We shall suffice as Reckoners.
Surah Al-Hajj – Chapter 22, verses 5 to 7
(5) Yaaa ayyuhan naasu in kuntum fee raibin minal ba'thi fa innaa khalaqnaakum min turaabin thumma min nutfatin thumma min 'alaqatin thumma min mudghatin mukhallaqatinw wa ghairi mukhallaqatin linubaiyina lakum; wa nuqirru fil arhaami maa nashaaa'u ilaaa ajalin musamman thumma nukhrijukum tiflan thumma litablughooo ashuddakum wa minkum mai yutawaffa wa minkum mai yuraddu ilaaa arzalil 'umuri likailaa ya'lama min ba'di 'ilmin shai'aa; wa taral arda haamidatan fa izaaa anzalnaa 'alaihal maaa'ah tazzat wa rabat wa ambatat min kulli zawjin baheej(6) Zaalika bi annal laaha Huwal haqqu wa annahoo yuhyil mawtaa wa annahoo 'alaakulli shai'in Qadeer (7) Wa annas Saa'ata aatiya tul laa raiba feeha wa annal laaha yab'asuman fil quboor
(5) O mankind! If you have any doubt concerning Resurrection, then know that it is surely We Who created you from dust, then from a drop of sperm, then from a clot of blood, then from a little lump of flesh, some of it shapely and other shapeless. (We are rehearsing this) that We may make the reality clear to you. We cause (the drop of sperm) that We please to remain in the wombs till an appointed time. We bring you forth as infants (and nurture you) that you may come of age. Among you is he that dies (at a young age) and he who is kept back to the most abject age so that after once having known, he reaches a stage when he knows nothing. You see the earth dry and barren and then no sooner than We send down water upon it, it begins to quiver and swell and brings forth every kind of beauteous vegetation. (6) All this is because Allah, He is the Truth, and because He resurrects the dead, and because He has power over everything, (7) (all of which shows that) the Hour shall surely come to pass - in this there is no doubt - and Allah shall surely resurrect those that are in graves.
Surah Ar-Room – Chapter 30, verse 19
Yukhrijul haiya minal maiyiti wa yukhrijul maiyita minal haiyi wa yuhyil arda ba'da mawtihaa; wa kazaalika tukhrajoon (section 2)
He brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living, and revives the earth after it is dead. Likewise, will you be raised to life (after you die).
Surah Ar-Room – Chapter 30, verse 27
Wa Huwal lazee yabda'ul khalqa summa yu'eeduhoo wa huwa ahwanu 'alaih; wa lahul masalul a'laa fissamaawaati wal-ard; wa Huwal 'Azeezul Hakeem (section 3)
It is He Who creates in the first instance, and it is He Who will repeat the creation, and that is easier for Him. His is the loftiest attribute in the heavens and the earth. He is the Most Mighty, the Most-Wise.
Surah Luqman – Chapter 31, verse 28
Maa khalqukum wa laa ba'sukum illaa kanafsinw-waa hidah; innal laaha Samee'um Baseer
To create all of you or to resurrect all of you is to Him like (creating or resurrecting) a single person. Verily Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.
Surah Fatir – Chapter 35, verse 22
Wa maa yastawil ahyaaa'u wa lal amwaat; innal laaha yusmi'u mai yashaaa'u wa maaa anta bi musmi'im man fil quboor
nor are the living and the dead alike. Allah makes to hear whomsoever He wishes, but you, (O Prophet), cannot cause to hear those who are in their graves.
Surah Ya-seen – Chapter 36, verse 51
Wa nufikha fis-soori faizaa hum minal ajdaasi ilaa Rabbihim yansiloon
Then the Trumpet shall be blown and lo! they will come out of their graves and be on the move towards their Lord,
Surah Al-Qamar – Chapter 54, verse 7
Khushsha'an absaaruhum yakhrujoona minal ajdaasi ka annahum jaraadum muntashir
with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts.
Surah Al-Mumtahina – Chapter 60, verse 13
Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena amanoo laa tatawallaw qawman ghadibal laahu 'alaihim qad ya'isoo minal aakhirati kamaa ya'isal kuffaaru min as haabil quboor
Believers, do not make friends with those against whom Allah is wrathful and who are despaired of the Hereafter, as despaired as are the unbelievers lying in their graves.
Surah Al-Ma’arij – Chapter 70, verses 42 to 44
(42) Fazarhum yakhoodoo wa yal'aboo hattaa yulaaqoo yawma humul lazee yoo'adoon (43) Yawma yakhrujoona minal ajdaasi siraa'an ka anna hum ilaa nusubiny yoofidoon(44) Khaashi'atan absaaruhum tarhaquhum zillah; zaalikal yawmul lazee kaanoo yoo'adoon
(42) So leave them to engage in vain talk and to amuse themselves until they come face to face with the Day which they are promised, (43) the Day on which they will hastily come forth from their graves, as though they were hurrying on to the altars of their deities.(44) Their eyes will be downcast and disgrace will overwhelm them. Such is the Day that they were promised.
Surah Abasa – Chapter 80, verses 19 to 22
(19) Min nutfatin khalaqahoo faqaddarah. (20) Thummas sabeela yas-sarah (21) Thumma amatahu fa-aqbarah (22) Thumma iza shaa-a ansharah
(19) Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, (20) and then made the course of life easy for him, (21) then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, (22) and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life.
Surah Al-Infitar – Chapter 82, verses 4 to 5
(4) Wa izal qubooru bu'sirat (5) 'Alimat nafsum maa qaddamat wa akhkharat
(4) and when graves are laid open, (5) everyone shall know all his deeds, both the earlier and the later.

(4) Alaa yazunnu ulaaa'ika annahum mab'oosoon (5) Li Yawmin 'Azeem (6) Yawma yaqoomun naasu li Rabbil 'aalameen
(4) Do they not realise that they will be raised to life (5) on a Great Day, (6) a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe?

(9) Afala ya'lamu iza b'uthira ma filquboor (10) Wa hussila maa fis sudoor
(9) Is he not aware that when whatever lies (buried) in the graves is overthrown; (10) and the secrets of the hearts are laid bare (and examined)?

(1) Al haaku mut takathur (2) Hatta zurtumul-maqaabir
(1) The craving for ever-greater worldly gains and to excel others in that regard keeps you occupied (2) until you reach your graves.
